MOVING......IN !!!!!

NOVEMBER 16, 2010

While I continued to sand, finish, resand, and refinish the frames and trim, Frank continued to work on cutting and splitting firewood. Frank found a huge sassafras tree about 60' tall and 18 or more inches in diameter. I didn't know that they grew that large! It was hollow, and he found these growing in the center of the tree!

Tuesday our counters did come--even early. They are beautiful! Since it had been on sale, we had upgraded to Corian. They came in three pieces. The first went from the refrigerator, around the corner, and continued to the stove. The second went from the stove, around the corner, and to the end of the cabinets. It includes the sink. The third piece was the breakfast bar. We had them drop it down to table height. No use buying bar stools, when we already have eight wooden chairs. They went out to their truck, to saw the exact length for the back splash.

Frank called for the inspector to come. He was off work, hunting. His boss told us to go ahead and move in without the occupancy permit.

So......Thursday was a big day. Frank brought a trailer up to John and Tonya's house with one of his lawn tractors. He filled the trailer with our belongings and brought them down to our house. I kept finding containers, filling them, and he kept taking them down. A Friend friend from Morgantown helped him. By lunch time, we had everything down except our hanging clothes, my houseplants, and our things which are up in the attic of their garage. We only brought a few pieces of large furniture up from the basement. John went home, and we began to find homes for everything. Of course, it was a mess.

The first order of business was to find all the pieces of our bed. Tonya helped. They were in at least 6 different places. We decided that we were moved when we could sleep in our own bed again.

Since we had been buying groceries together, Tonya went through the food stuff, and divided it. She and I put liner on the shelves and tried to find places for all of it. We have piles and baskets going back and forth as we sort what belongs to whom. We decided to put things away before we bring more things into the main part of the house.

Every day it looks better around here.

We have gone to the attic and the basement to find things we want. Frank found lots of his retirement gifts, and then made homes for them.

Frank set up both desks. We bought a new computer desk, and set up both computers.

We will be working on the house for some time to come--mostly trim work. Yesterday the final inspection was done. and we were given our occupancy permit. Basically, he asked if all the plumbing worked, and checked out the sign off on the electrical work! He did the paper work, then he talked hunting.

We canceled Frank's cell phone, but will keep mine. Since my birthday was Friday, I decided that I received the best birthday present ever--a new house! We're settling in. Come see us.

  1. ERK, I love the look of your new kitchen! The Corian® color you chose works very well with your home’s wood walls. And, it was a great idea to drop your breakfast bar’s height down - not only does it save you from buying new stools, but it also adds an interesting visual element to the kitchen.
